I've been listening for a while to this, but we listened again last week and it's just so powerful - the series Great Pianists IV - the pianist - Maria Yudina playing Beethoven Op. 120, the Diabelli Variations.
For some reason, and I don't quite know why, that piece never got to me before. I guess it always seemed just a little beliggerent for its materials, as compared to the late sonatas. Each variation comes off like a gigantic bomb, exploding inside your head. Highly recommended. Her Goldberg is no slouch either, but I already have a favorite, the second Gould in that regard.
