Hi - I enjoy all types of music except for Rap. To be honest....I'm not a classical music lover like most people probably are who join this form....although I like some of it. One composer who Iove is Ennio Morricone....I loved his score for the movie "Once Upon a Time In America". Especially a piece called "Deborah's Song"....which I think is also called "Amapola".

I also LOVE the composition "Adagio For Strings" by Samuel Barber. I don't know if these are considered "classical" because these guys are so recent...and I think Morricone is still composing music. Does true classical music have to be older than these compositions?

I joined this forum to learn more about classical music. I really like music that I guess would be considered beautiful & haunting.

Another reason I joined is that I want so badly to find a piece of music that I heard when I was young....I have spent quite a bit of time searching for it on the net & also on "Limewire". I was born in 53 & after my sisters and I went to bed at night when we were young....my father (now deceased) would play a piece of music on the piano called "Mediation".

My sisters and I would so like to find this peice of music. If I remember correctly....I saw the sheet music that my father would play this from & it had like 5 flats or sharps in it (although I'm not positive about this because it was so long ago....& I don't know if that piece of info would help me find this or not).

It was sort of odd because my father wasn't that much of a piano player....but he learned this song & played it so well....& it looked like a very difficult piece to play from what I remember from the sheet music. And every night we would hear this piece of music wafting through the air & it just brings back such strong memories of our father.

I would love it if anybody could help me find this. Any comments, replies, or suggestions would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks.

Hi again - Sorry I didn't spell check the reply I sent. I looked at my reply after I entered it and saw a couple of errors....but I don't think they will change the understanding of the post in any way. I think there was a way to edit the post after entering it if you did it within 15 minutes....but I'm not an advanced computer user & I wasn't sure I would do it right...so I thought I would just send this along.

Hello, Russell. I just checked back in and found your note.

I searched the web for those folks you listed and none of them is the one. The "Meditation" Mother played seemed very distinctly a piano piece, not organ adapted. Would it help if at did a graphic of the notes of the opening melody? It is a very simple and slow melody and arrangement.

I sent an email to WRR asking for pointers but they didn't reply. Any other directions you could point me in would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Pam

Hi Pam
I posted an answer last night but it didn't "take".

This shouldn't be too difficult. If the piece was called Meditation, then there are a number of suspects to eliminate. I'm thinking particularly of music popular in the 1930s. Try: Meditation from Thais by Massenet. You could hear it on YouTube.
Other possibilities: Germaine Tailleferre, Messaien. This isn't my preferred range of music but I can suggest other lines to explore if you're interested.

Hi again - I'm not sure I'm using this forum correctly so that my posts show up in the correct order...but it seems that they have been read. To Russell...thanks for the suggestion regarding finding the piano piece called "Meditation" that I'm looking for. I will check YouTube & another music site I belong to see if is the one.

And yes...I would appreciate it if you would check on other lines for me to explore to find this. It has become like an obsession for my sisters & I to find this piece of music. In regards to what I said about being the piano piece "Meditation"....thats what the title of the sheet music was that he played.....I'm not sure if this was composed to just be played on a piano alone....but that was how I heard it and it is a beautiful piece of music. It seems we have been on a treasure hunt & I hope we eventually find the treasure.

Thanks - and I'm ready to explore any avenue to try and find this!
